  1. Step aside Shane Doan Jersey , Saints-Falcons. Panthers-Falcons could become the best rivalry in the NFC South. Atlanta receiver Julio Jones hasn’t shown up for Organized Team Activities. However, Jones showed up for Carolina quarterback Cam Newton‘s celebrity kickball tournament. And the Panthers have seized on the opportunity to kick some sand in the face of the Falcons. “Julio says hi @AtlantaFalcons,” the Panthers tweeted from their official account (and not from their burner account). The Falcons have not yet responded. If they hope to take the rivalry next level (to, say, the heights of Jets-Patriots), they’ll file a tampering charge over this. UPDATE 2:42 p.m. ET: The Panthers have deleted the tweet. The Arizona Cardinals made their long-awaited move for a potential franchise quarterback, trading up five spots in the first round to select UCLA's Josh Rosen with the 10th pick overall on Thursday night. They acquired a 21-year-old quarterback who is not at all happy he wasn't drafted higher. "I thought I should have been picked at one, two or three," he said in a conference call. "...I was really, really angry." As he stewed in his seat at the draft in Arlington, Texas, Rosen said he was prepared to put on a fake face of happiness for whatever team chose him but said that didn't happen when he finally went to the Cardinals. "I got really happy and really motivated," Rosen said. "All I wanted to do was basically get on a plane and go straight to Arizona and start working." As to why he fell, "I don't know and I don't care," he said. "It's behind me. I'm an Arizona Cardinal now and I hope I will be for many, many years to come." To get the selection Authentic Eric Staal Jersey , the Cardinals sent their own first-round pick (No. 15) as well as one of their third-round selections (No. 79) and their fifth-round choice (No. 152) to the Oakland Raiders. It's the highest Arizona has drafted a quarterback since taking Matt Leinart at No. 10 in 2006. Rosen, who had a standout career in college but was hampered by injuries, was the last of the so-called "big four" quarterbacks chosen. Baker Mayfield went No. 1 to Cleveland, Sam Darnold No. 3 to the New York Jets and Josh Allen No. 7 to Buffalo. Rosen is pleased that the "kind of annoying" pre-draft process is over. "I'm just excited to get past that and especially get to the substance and do stuff that actually matters," he said. Rosen is expected to be in Tempe for a news conference Friday and participate in rookie minicamp next month. He joins new head coach Steve Wilks and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. The team addressed the quarterback situation in the short-term in the offseason by signing Sam Bradford to a one-year deal with Mike Glennon as his backup. But the Cardinals sorely need a long-term solution at that position and general manager Steve Keim went ahead with the trade, knowing that the next team, Miami at No. 11, could be interested in a quarterback. Rosen comes from a wealthy family and has an extremely confident, sometimes brash personality that may have been a factor in him still being there at No. 10. This is what his UCLA coach, Jim Mora said, in a well-publicized interview: "He needs to be challenged intellectually so he doesn't get bored. He's a millennial. He wants to know why. Millennials, once they know why, they're good. Josh has a lot of interests in life. If you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire. He has so much ability, and he's a really good kid." Wilks said he's "coached a lot of different personalities." "To make a difference, you've got to be different Youth Uchenna Nwosu Jersey ," Wilks said. "I love his personality. He's wired the right way." Do not expect Rosen to speak in boring clich茅s. That's not him. "Maybe if I shut up there last three years I could have been picked higher, but I want to be me," he said. "The Arizona Cardinals know what they're getting. They're not getting a kid that's going to say stupid things. ... They're going to get a kid that everyone knows who they're getting every single day they walk in the building." And his outspokenness doesn't bother the Cardinals. "I don't think he's afraid to say what's on his mind, which I don't always think is a bad thing," Keim said. "I think there's been some pretty successful quarterbacks in the NFL in recent years who have been wired the same way." McCoy, who worked with the likes of Tim Tebow in Denver and Philip Rivers when McCoy was head coach in San Diego, has said he wants to design an offense that fits the abilities of his players. "I understand the situation," Rosen said. "I'm going to come in, I'm going to be respectful. Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon are two amazing quarterbacks and we're going to compete our butts off. Regardless of who's the starter, we're going to support that person. Obviously, I want to be the starter but if I'm not I'm going to support the team, because I'm not Team Josh Rosen playing on the Arizona Cardinals, I'm part of the Arizona Cardinals and I want to win Super Bowls for the Arizona Cardinals. "And I think over time that will happen."
  2. Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas officially commenced his holdout as the team began its three-day mandatory minicamp Tuesday. Thomas released a statement on Twitter on Sunday announcing his intention to skip the minicamp and all team-related activities until his contract situation is resolved. ”Kind of had heard that he was making that choice Womens Melvin Gordon Jersey ,” head coach Pete Carroll said. ”I wish he was here. That would be nice. But we’re focusing on the guys that are here and we’ll see how that goes.” Thomas is entering the final year of a four-year extension signed prior to the 2014 season. He is scheduled to make $8.5 million in base salary in 2018. ”I want to remain a Seahawk for the rest of my career but I also believe that based on my production over the last 8 years that I’ve earned the right to have this taken care of as soon as possible,” Thomas wrote. ”I want to have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career.” The Seahawks can fine Thomas $84,435 if he misses all three days of the minicamp. Fines are ultimately at the team’s discretion. Defensive end Chris Clemons was the last Seahawks player to skip the mandatory minicamp in 2012, but he signed a new contract prior to training camp and was in attendance there. Running back Marshawn Lynch in 2014 and safety Kam Chancellor in 2015 did hold out from training camp with Chancellor missing the first two weeks of the regular season. Carroll said each situation is different when it comes to holdouts. ”It’s an individual case with whoever the guy it, whatever his story is,” Carroll said. ”I don’t see putting them in a basket. I think you look at each guy and whatever is going on, the history and all that and you deal with it accordingly.” Thomas, defensive end Frank Clark and cornerback Byron Maxwell had all stayed away from the team during voluntary workouts. Clark and Maxwell were both in attendance Tuesday, though Clark was limited due to a sore hamstring. If Thomas’ holdout extends into training camp, he can be fined $40,000 a day for each day he misses. Additional penalties are incurred if he misses more than six days of camp. Carroll said he is uncertain how the situation will play out but that he still views Thomas as a part of their program. ”Heck yeah, he’s under contract. Sure,” Carroll said. ”… He gives you everything he’s got when he’s with you.” Notes: CB Dontae Johnson had surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. He is currently in a walking boot and recovering. — Dak Prescott barks at his teammates a little more now that he's a couple of years removed from a sensational rookie year with the Dallas Cowboys. At least that's the way tight end Geoff Swaim put it, and he didn't mean it in a negative way. The star quarterback sure hopes so. "I may be a little bit more vocal," Prescott said. "But when you say 'barking,' it's almost like at a negative tone. Like, you're going out at them hard. I'd say if anything, I'm trying to be more encouraging and bring more out of them. "When you have a young team and different personalities, it's hard just to be negative and be critical the whole time. For me, it's a lot about coaching the guys up. And then the guys that I know I can be critical on Nicklas Backstrom Jersey , yeah, sure I am." The 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, who opens the season Sunday at Carolina trying to get the Cowboys back to the playoffs after they missed during his less-than-stellar encore , just illustrated offensive coordinator Scott Linehan's take on leadership from Prescott. Sure, this 25-year-old with a master's degree in workforce education leadership from Mississippi State is the unquestioned commander of the offense 鈥?and that includes over running back Ezekiel Elliott, his fellow first-year standout from 2016. But it's not necessarily because of the retirement of Tony Romo, the quarterback he replaced with one of the best debuts for a quarterback in NFL history. Or because 15-year tight end Jason Witten joined Romo in the broadcast booth this year. Or because the Cowboys dumped boisterous receiver Dez Bryant, the franchise leader in touchdown catches, in a cost-cutting move. Since Prescott showed up as the forgotten third-teamer on Romo's team two years ago, he has shown the leadership qualities that suddenly became more pronounced. He was a natural to become the face of the franchise , and would be by himself if not for linebacker Sean Lee. "He's always been a guy that, even as a rookie, he was not afraid to speak up and give his two cents on the field and encourage guys," Linehan said. "He's a natural when it comes to that." Prescott led the Cowboys to 11 straight wins after Romo injured his back in the preseason in 2016, when Dallas had an NFC-best 13 victories before losing to Green Bay in a divisional playoff. Elliott's six-game suspension marred their second season together, and Prescott felt the burden of the absence. The poor decisions he avoided as a rookie were more frequent, including an ill-advised throw that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown in a late-season loss to Seattle that finished off Dallas' playoff hopes in Elliott's first game back. The theme last season was whether Prescott could avoid a sophomore slump, a term he brushed off. Now it's whether he can have a bounce-back season, if there is such a thing for a young quarterback. "You can call it whatever you call it," he said. "I'm excited for what we're going to have and the year we're going to have and I feel very Womens Greg Olsen Jersey , very confident in the players we have and the team we have and what we're going to do this season." There are questions, starting with a revamped receiving corps that lacks the star power brought by Witten and Bryant. The Cowboys say they'll attack the passing game with versatility, hoping to take advantage of one-on-one matchups with opponents focusing first on stopping Elliott, the league rushing leader when Prescott was voted the top offensive rookie. There are two new starters on Dallas' vaunted offensive line. Joe Looney is replacing Travis Frederick at center while the four-time Pro Bowler recovers from Guillain-Barre syndrome, an auto-immune disease that attacks nerves. He doesn't know when he will return. Rookie second-round pick Connor Williams is at left guard. Despite the questions, Prescott is determined not to try to do too much again. "I know I'll be better," he said. "I just learned so much from last year, just moving forward, mature within the game, just learned a lot more that I didn't know last year that I wasn't as comfortable with. Just reads, my game on footwork, accuracy and consistency, everything." Learning isn't stopping him from coaching, as he put it. "I think as a rookie it was more encouraging and that kind of thing," Swaim said. "This year, the barking, it's not like he's screaming and yelling. That's not his thing. It's more just, 'Hey, this is what you need to do here.' And it's good because it keeps everyone focused and in their role and doing their job." Prescott just wants you to know it's not negative.
  3. The New York Jets have signed veteran wide receiver-kick returner Andre Roberts to a one-year contract. Roberts had just one catch for Atlanta last season Womens Deryk Engelland Jersey , but he instantly boosts the Jets' return game, which has struggled mightily the past few years. The 30-year-old Roberts averaged 22.6 yards on 38 kickoff returns and 7.4 yards on 27 punt returns with the Falcons. Roberts returned two punts for touchdowns with Detroit in 2016, while also averaging 22.6 yards on 33 kickoff returns. Roberts was a third-round draft pick by Arizona out of The Citadel in 2010 and has familiarity with Jets coach Todd Bowles from their time together with the Cardinals in 2013. Roberts also played for Washington from 2014-15. He has averaged 23.4 yards in his career on kickoff returns with one TD, and 8.1 yards on punt returns with two scores. Roberts also has 244 catches for 2,911 yards and 14 TDs. Tennessee owner Amy Adams Strunk shot down speculation that Mike Mularkey’s job is at risk, saying her coach is going nowhere after helping change the Titans’ culture and getting their first playoff victory in 14 years. National reports first had Mularkey potentially fired if the Titans lost their regular-season finale and again if Tennessee lost its AFC wild-card game at Kansas City. Instead, the Titans pulled off a major comeback after trailing 21-3 at halftime. Strunk tried to stop all the talk with her statement on Mularkey’s job security Sunday . ”I regret that outside rumors gained a life of their own,” Strunk said. ”No one has been a bigger supporter of Mike Mularkey than I have over the last two-plus seasons. … Just to eliminate any distractions moving forward, Mike Mularkey is our head coach and will be our head coach moving forward.” Strunk made Mularkey interim head coach in November 2015 after firing Ken Whisenhunt who went 3-20 in his short tenure. Mularkey went 2-7 before Strunk gave him a three-year contract as head coach in January 2016, two days after hiring Jon Robinson as general manager. Mularkey addressed the national reports that his job was on the line after the Titans beat Kansas City 22-21 on Saturday. ”No http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/davante-adams-jersey ,” Mularkey said. ”I haven’t had any support to say that I was (secure). No. I just assumed the worst.” Hours after his owner’s statement of support, Mularkey said that the Titans ”absolutely” are on the same page together. He also called Strunk’s statement nice and that he had only wanted to talk about the Titans beating a good team in their own backyard after the game. Asked if the statement has put his mind at ease, Mularkey said he’s addressed the situation with his staff and won’t talk about it anymore. ”I’m already onto New England,” Mularkey said. ”It’s been addressed, and I’m full-speed ahead getting ready for New England with our staff.” Strunk credited Mularkey and Robinson with changing the culture of the organization and said she’s so happy they’ve been able to win 19 games over the past two seasons, including the first playoff victory since Jan. 3, 2004. She said the Titans have plenty of work ahead starting with the AFC divisional round, visiting No. 1 seed New England (13-3) on Saturday night. ”I am looking forward to the journey,” Strunk said. With the win over the Chiefs, Mularkey now has a victory in his first postseason game. He also is 21-21 since taking over the Titans. Their latest win needed an amazing comeback from a 21-3 halftime deficit Jeff Carter Jersey , tying for the second-largest rally by a road team in the playoffs. They tied Dallas’ comeback from an 18-point deficit in 1972 in the divisional round to beat San Francisco. Only Detroit’s rally from 20 points down in 1957 to beat the 49ers in the divisional round was bigger than Tennessee’s comeback. Tennessee rallied by sticking with the run. The Titans set a postseason franchise record by running for 202 yards against the Chiefs. Derrick Henry ran for a career-high 156 yards, while Marcus Mariota added 46. Cornerback Logan Ryan, a free agent signee this past offseason, says the Titans have done a lot with the first playoff appearance since 2008 and first playoff win in 14 years. ”That’s a pretty good coach to me,” Ryan said. NOTES: Mularkey says RB DeMarco Murray, who has missed the past two games with an injured right knee, will be day to day this week and might have a limited role. Mularkey says having an extra day would have helped. The coach also needs to see Murray run. —
  4. Alex Smith is frustrating Josh Norman. Norman likes having Smith with the Washington Redskins Chukwuma Okorafor Color Rush Jersey , but practice time against the veteran quarterback at training camp hasn't been as beneficial as the big-money cornerback had hoped. That's because Smith has been so on-point with his decision-making and throws that Norman isn't getting a whole lot of work in team drills. "You're in great position, you get there top of the route, you're ready for your play to be made and it doesn't come," Norman said. "But the ones you are a little step behind on and you're almost there to make it, he throws it. It's those games, cat and mouse, man. It's cat-and-mouse games that it just sucks when you're the mouse." Norman feels like the mouse early in camp but hopes facing a QB like Smith each day benefits him in the long run. Entering the third season of a $75 million, five-year contract, Norman is balancing the lack of work he's getting during 11-on-11 time with his usual half-hour plus of individual drills after practice as one of the last players on the field. "That's what you've got to do to be the best, to be great like him," said undrafted rookie safety Quin Blanding, who worked out with Norman following practice Sunday. "It just shows he wants extra work no matter all the work he's done in practice. It's always find ways to get better, and that's what he's doing." Norman is known for his post-practice regimen, whether it's going for jump balls or catching in rapid succession out of a JUGS machine. But none of that compares to team snaps, where Smith is avoiding Norman the way he would in a real game. "I'm just staying the course and trying to understand that your technique is not flawed, continue to do what you do even though your chances are not coming," Norman said. "But when they do come, try to be better than the quarterback in making a play. He's so precise right now Youth Tremaine Edmunds Jersey , so he's not making mistakes, and that's the biggest thing you've seen. Even in practice, he's not making mistakes. It's hard to try to key in on that." Coach Jay Gruden approves. His offense is built around quick decisions and finding the right receiver to throw to, and that's not usually by challenging Norman. "Josh is getting plenty of work," Gruden said Tuesday. "We're not going to throw a flat route out to Josh Norman and let him pick it. That's just common sense, so Josh is going to have to wait for somebody else to throw it to him." Norman is still isolating elements of his game to work on at age 30, going into his seventh NFL season. He had no interceptions last year and dropped more than a handful of prime opportunities, so at practice he's working on the little things that turn a broken-up pass into a pick. "Being in place is the first part, but finishing the ball should be something that already is established and ingrained in you," Norman said. "It's just that six inches from making a play to not making a play." Trying to close the gap on those inches is what goes into Norman's extra work after practice. And in the process, he's helping young defensive backs like Blanding and Kenny Ladler develop the same kind of habits. "You fix the mistakes and then when it comes again, you don't make the same mistake," Blanding said. "You've got to be ready to work no matter if it feels like a great day of practice or if it was a bad day of practice. You've got to put that aside and you've just got to work. You've got to keep on working, and that's what he does." NOTES: RB Chris Thompson, who's recovering from surgery to repair a broken right fibula, took his first snaps in team drills Tuesday. ... LB Mason Foster was limited at practice by a strained stomach muscle. Before throwing Jarvis Landry a pass, the Browns made a huge commitment to him. Cleveland signed the star wide receiver to a five-year, $75 million contract extension on Friday night http://www.jaguarscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-blake-bortles-jersey , locking up a game-changing player they're counting on for the future. A three-time Pro Bowler acquired last month in a trade with Miami, Landry was at the team's headquarters Friday as the Browns continued preparations for an NFL draft that may re-shape their franchise. "Jarvis Landry is the type of football player we want on this team for a long time," general manager John Dorsey said. "Obviously, he's an accomplished playmaker, that's why we went after him in the trade but in his short time as a Brown we can already see the type of leadership and competitiveness he's going to bring to his teammates. We are very pleased that we've been able to secure him to a long-term contract." Landry led the NFL with 112 catches last season and scored nine touchdowns, two more than Cleveland's entire receiving corps. The 25-year-old will make an immediate impact for a Cleveland team that lost all 16 games last season and is 1-31 in two years under coach Hue Jackson. "I've always dreamed of two things: taking care of my family and playing football," Landry said. "I've become a product of hard work, sacrifice, persistence, and mental toughness. Jerry Rice said the thing that made him so great was the fear of failure. I've been afraid of failure my whole life. I've endured my share, but in each and every discomforting time I've failed, I've also grown, I've also learned, I've also found success." The Browns have the No. 1 and No. 4 overall picks and are expected to select a quarterback. However, that pick is likely to spend at least one season backing up newly acquired QB Tyrod Taylor, who will have Landry as a target.
  5. PORTLAND Authentic Jared Goff Jersey , Ore. — The Portland Trail Blazers know they’re behind the eight-ball Tuesday night at Moda Center when they play host to the New Orleans Pelicans in Game 2 of their best-of-seven first-round playoff series. The No. 6 seed Pelicans stole a 97-95 victory in Saturday’s opener. The No. 3 seed Trail Blazers realize they can’t go to New Orleans for Games 3 and 4 trailing 2-0 in the series. “It puts some pressure on us,” Portland point guard Damian Lillard said. “You come in with home-court (advantage) and you lose the first one. Now in (the Pelicans’) locker room, they’re saying, ‘We got one. Why not go get another one?’ “Our job is to defend the home court, so it’s one game at a time. We can’t let (Saturday’s) loss go into the next game.” Portland has plenty of things to solve after Game 1. The Blazers would like to do a better defensive job on Anthony Davis, who carved them up for 35 points and 14 rebounds. More important, they need to get their offense going early. The Blazers shot 31.9 percent from the field, including 3 of 17 from 3-point range, and trailed 45-36 at intermission on Saturday. Lillard and backcourt mate CJ McCollum combined for three points on 1-of-15 shooting in the first half. McCollum finished with 19 points and Lillard 18 as the Blazers got untracked for 59 second-half points. But New Orleans’ defense on the Portland guards was as big a factor as any in the outcome. “We just wanted to make sure we put as much pressure as we could on Dame and CJ, and make someone else beat us,” Davis said. “Our main focus was to make it tough on Dame and CJ.” New Orleans’ Jrue Holiday was the best guard on the floor Saturday, with 21 points on 10-of-20 shooting and seven rebounds to go with outstanding defense. “With Kawhi Leonard injured, I don’t know if there’s a better two-way player in the game,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. “We ask him to get 20 points every night and guard the best perimeter player on the other team, regardless of size or who it is. I don’t know if you can do a better job on those two guards than Jrue and (Rajon Rondo) did.” Lillard thought the Blazers should shoulder the blame. “We just didn’t make shots,” said Lillard, who played 42 minutes, including the entire second half. “Give credit to what they did defensively. They were physical, and they were trapping a lot of my pick-and-rolls. But it comes down to the way we shot. We got a fair amount of good looks; we just didn’t knock them down. “We probably played as bad as we could possibly play. And (the Pelicans) played really well, and we still had a chance to win at the end. If we come out (in Game 2) and play like the team that we are, it’ll be a much better performance.” Saturday’s win was the first ever in the playoffs for Davis, now in his sixth season in the NBA. “It means a lot to get that monkey off your back,” he said. “But now that’s over with. We want to come in Tuesday and get another one. We always believe. Winning this game makes us believe more, especially on the road.” Gentry said, “We feel comfortable playing away from home. If you can win the first game, it takes the edge off. But we have to do the same thing (on Tuesday). You can’t take anything for granted. You still have to play with the same intensity.” Sam Darnold zipped pass after pass down the field, knowing each one of them counted. Literally. The New York Jets rookie quarterback was at his old stomping grounds of San Clemente High School in California last month, just a few weeks before being the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft Authentic Carey Price Jersey , tossing ”smart” footballs equipped with computer chips calculating his every throw. It was high-tech training that Darnold and Jordan Palmer, his mentor and a former NFL quarterback, believe will help him – as well as other signal callers around the country – improve skills through unique and meticulous data. Darnold and Palmer are serving as advisory staff members for Wilson, which makes the official balls used by the NFL. The Chicago-based company has been incorporating technology and performance-based data with its Wilson X Connected Football, which debuted two years ago. Now, Darnold and Palmer are helping develop the next-generation version that will enhance film sessions and, possibly, on-field production. ”I think it’s really cool to come out here with Wilson and give them my feedback on what it really takes to be a quarterback and what I’m looking for in this data,” Darnold said in a video provided by Wilson, ”and help kind of build the prototype that is going to push this game to the next level.” Wilson hopes to have the 2.0 version of its Connected Football technology available for a wide release to college and pro teams later this year. In the meantime, the company is gathering feedback from some players and coaches at both levels, including Darnold and Palmer. ”Before this technology, it was really just based on the eye, the naked eye,” Darnold said, ”being able to look at the film and based on a throw, you might look at your feet, your hips or something like that, to tell you what might have happened, what might have gone wrong. ”Now with this technology, it gives us hard evidence, hard data to be able to look back on and figure out exactly what happened and what might have gone wrong and what we can improve on and keep improving as a quarterback.” Darnold’s involvement with the Wilson technology began over a year ago when he was working with Palmer, who played in the NFL for parts of eight seasons and has become one of the country’s elite quarterback trainers. One of the biggest criticisms of Darnold at USC before last season was a glaring flaw in his mechanics: an elongated motion with which he’d drop his right arm a bit when he wanted to air out a pass. After one of Palmer’s buddies told him about the first-generation Wilson X Connected ball, he decided to use it – and it confirmed his theory. ”I knew kind of how to fix it because it’s really just retraining muscle memory,” Palmer said in a phone interview. ”I knew that, but to try to get it to where it was digestible and understandable, where I could prove definitively that he shouldn’t do that, I just needed data to back that up.” Palmer set up receivers in different spots on a field and had Darnold throw to them to see what distance Darnold lowered his arm more than normal. ”He didn’t do it on every throw Eagles Richard Rodgers Jersey ,” Palmer said. ”We determined around 32 yards was when he felt like he needed to rip it, so he would drop the ball a little bit lower.” Meanwhile, the Wilson football was gathering results from four data points: spin (RPMs), spiral efficiency, velocity and time of release – when Darnold’s left hand came off the ball as he was starting to throw to when the ball left his fingertips. ”What we determined is that it’s the same velocity, same spiral efficiency and the same spin, but the time of release was slower when he dropped it,” said Palmer, whose older brother Carson played quarterback for 15 NFL seasons. ”So, it was basically like, `OK, so you have a slowed release and you’re not gaining any velocity on this.’ So, that was eye-opening to where he went, `Wow. So, let’s go ahead and fix this.”’ Darnold and Palmer kept training with the football and used the data to fine-tune the mechanics of one of the most highly touted players in the country . The two were then asked by Wilson to help the still-developing training system get even better. While it wasn’t immediately certain if Darnold will use the upcoming advanced technology with the Jets during the NFL season, he and Palmer have continued during the offseason to give their thoughts and suggestions on the new product. ”It’s really kind of a peek into the garage,” Palmer said. The chip inside the new Wilson Connected ball has higher-caliber sensors than the original, and the system is being designed to work within a team environment. ”You can record up to 18 balls at one given time and you go through practice like normal and you’ll be able to download all of this data that goes to a spreadsheet,” Wilson Labs engineer Dan Hare explained. ”From there, they can choose to import it into their video systems or review it with an analytics group or on their own.” The new Wilson Connected Football System will also provide information based around play timing. That includes snap-to-release times and snap-to-target times, which will help perfect individual routes on offense. ”You look at this information and say, `Hey, based on my quarterback and what he can do, this is what my wide receiver needs to do in order to be in the right spot at the right time to get the ball fluidly,”’ Hare said. ”If your starting quarterback goes down, your second guy co
  6. Billy Hamilton is well aware of his struggles at the plate. The Cincinnati Reds centerfielder has tried to stay positive even as his average and his spot in the batting order dropped at an alarming rate Derrius Guice Color Rush Jersey , trying to focus on being a more complete player until his swing returned. For the first time in a while – far too long for Hamilton’s liking – everything that makes him so effective was on full display Sunday against Pittsburgh. Hamilton went 3 for 4, stole two bases, scored three times and made a pair of vital defensive plays as the Reds held on for an 8-6 victory on Sunday. Hamilton started the day with a diving grab on the warning track in right-center to rob Pittsburgh’s Francisco Cervelli of extra bases in the first. He ended it by starting the sequence that cut down the potential game-tying run at the plate in the eighth then trotting home in the ninth after Scott Schebler’s two-run shot gave Cincinnati a little extra breathing room. ”Oh my goodness, that’s the best part (is the hitting),” Hamilton said after boosting his average .197. ”I ain’t worried about the catch. The catch is good, but I’m just worried about what I did at the plate. Especially for me, I’ve been struggling, man. Just to have one of these days, it gives you a bunch of confidence and clears your head a little bit.” Eugenio Suarez homered in the second straight game and Joey Votto celebrated his 1,500th major league contest by going 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Reds. Schebler added three RBIs for Cincinnati, which won for just the second time in seven tries at PNC Park this season. Anthony DeSclafani (2-1) surrendered solo home runs to Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco but otherwise kept the Pirates in check to pick up his second victory since his return after missing the entire 2017 season with right elbow issues. DeSclafani struck out four against three hits and a strikeout in 5 2/3 innings and more than once caught himself marveling at Hamilton. ”It’s unbelievable what he can do out there, man Reggie Wayne Jersey ,” DeSclafani said. ”He saves pitchers all the time and he’s just fun to watch out there. It’s like video game stuff. It’s unbelievable.” Raisel Iglesias allowed an inherited runner to score in the eighth and an RBI-single to Austin Meadows in the ninth but managed to record the final four outs for his 10th save, receiving a bit of help in the process. Iglesias entered with two on and two outs in the eighth and immediately surrendered a double in the gap to Polanco. Corey Dickerson scored to pull the Pirates within one but Josh Bell was out at home trying to score all the way from first after Hamilton raced to the ball and quickly got it to shortstop Jose Peraza, who fired a strike to home. The call stood upon review after the Pirates challenged Cincinnati catcher Curt Casali may have illegally blocked the plate. ”I was just thinking head-first slide before he caught it so it was just too late for me to redirect or think anything else at that point,” Bell said, who added he thought Casali ”100 percent” gave him a lane to slide. SLUMP BUSTED? Like Hamilton, Polanco has been mired in an extended slump. The Pirates moved him to seventh in the lineup and there are signs he’s on the verge of snapping out of it after going 3 for 3, including his ninth home run of the season. ”Right now I am not thinking about anything, just seeing the ball and hit it,” Polanco said after boosting his average to .211. ”Because my swing the last couple days has been good. I’m not thinking now, I’m just swinging now. And when you’re not thinking your swing is good. So you just want to continue to keep seeing the pitches that you want to hit.” MUSGROVE MUZZLED Joe Musgrove (2-2) had been impressive in his first four starts for the Pirates after starting the year on the disabled list with right-shoulder problems but the Reds jumped on him the second time through the lineup. Cincinnati scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth and finished 4 for 9 with runners in scoring position after going 0 for 19 in the same situation over the first two games of the series, both losses. Musgrove was charged with six runs in 4 1/3 innings with a walk and six strikeouts as his ERA jumped from 2.16 to 3.68. ”That’s my first day game in a while Jermey Parnell Jersey ,” Musgrove said after temperatures soared into the upper 80s. ”Just trying to get my body alert. It was hot out there. I felt drained.” UP NEXT Reds: off Monday then host Detroit in a brief two-game interleague series starting Tuesday when Sal Romano (3-7, 5.67 ERA) faces Matthew Boyd (4-4, 3.23). Pirates: Welcome Milwaukee to PNC Park for the first time this season when the Brewers come in for a three-game set starting Monday. Trevor Williams (5-4, 4.38 ERA) faces Jhoulys Chacin (6-1, 3.32) in the opener. — The New York Jets have placed backup offensive tackle Ben Ijalana on injured reserve and signed offensive lineman Gino Gradkowski. The Jets announced the moves Wednesday. Ijalana was injured this week during a joint practice with the Washington Redskins in Richmond, Virginia. He was entering his eighth NFL season and sixth with the Jets. Ijalana has appeared in 34 career games and made 13 starts, all in 2016. Gradkowski, younger brother of former NFL player Bruce Gradkowski, spent the last two seasons with the Panthers 鈥?but both were cut short by injuries. He was a fourth-round pick by Baltimore out of Delaware in 2012 and spent three seasons with the Ravens. Gradkowski also has spent time with Denver and Atlanta.
  7. LeBron James hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer Tomas Hertl Jersey , a crowning moment for another brilliant performance, to give Cleveland a 98-95 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night in Game 5, putting the Cavaliers within one victory of advancing in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Moments after blocking Victor Oladipo’s possible go-ahead driving layup, James caught the inbounds pass, took two dribbles and dropped the winner over Thaddeus Young. As Cleveland’s sellout crowd exploded, James hugged rookie teammate Cedi Osman before jumping on the scorer’s table to celebrate another of those moments that will define his career. James finished with 44 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and went 15 of 15 from the line. Kyle Korver added 19 points and Cleveland’s much-maligned defense tightened just in time as the Cavaliers seized their first lead in the first-round series after being down 1-0 and 2-1. Cleveland can close out Indiana with a win Friday night in Indianapolis. Domantas Sabonis scored 22 points, and Young had 16 for the Pacers. Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward exchanged the kind of toothy giggles normally only found between kids on a playground when they were introduced as the new faces of the Celtics. ”It’s about to be crazy, G,” Irving said in the ear of Hayward to a soundtrack of clicking camera lenses as they sat on a dais back in September two days after Boston’s blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Seven months later, Irving has proven to be prophetic – albeit not how he had in mind. It has been crazy unlucky for the Celtics. Stunning too. Al Horford said even shocking. And though things haven’t gone as scripted in Boston, the Celtics will open the playoffs at the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference believing they can win it all without their injured offseason acquisitions. ”Finals. I’m very confident,” guard Terry Rozier when asked how far Boston can go. ”Everybody has to be on the same page. And we just gotta play. And play hard.” That’s been Boston’s calling card throughout the season. They have no choice but to play hard because from Hayward’s gruesome Nikolaj Ehlers Jersey , season-ending left ankle injury on opening night, to the recent pair of left knee surgeries that has sidelined Irving, luck has been in short supply beyond the Celtics’ Leprechaun mascot named Lucky. Horford acknowledged being shocked when he heard that Irving was done for the season. But he said the time has passed for sulking about misfortunes. ”We can’t dwell on the past,” Horford said. Obviously it makes it more difficult. Kyrie, he’s the leader of this team. We won with him and now we have to find ways to do it without him.” In addition to Irving and Hayward, Boston will also be without productive rookie Daniel Theis (left knee surgery) for the season and Marcus Smart (right thumb surgery) until at minimum the second round. That’s not to mention a plethora of nagging injuries that have dogged the rest of the roster. Yet, in an Eastern Conference that features a less-than-dominating LeBron James-led Cavaliers team, Boston veterans Horford and Marcus Morris and its corps of talented young players led by Jaylen Brown, Rozier and rookie Jayson Tatum give it as legitimate a chance as anyone to make it to the NBA Finals. The Celtics will finish with their second straight 50-win season and their highest number of victories under coach Brad Stevens. Last season as the East’s top seed, Boston made it to the conference finals in spite of being smacked with adversity on the eve of the postseason following the death of Isaiah Thomas’ sister. Thomas returned to the team, but was then lost midway through the conference finals to a hip injury he’d been quietly playing through. ”With Isaiah, we had him all year. Even though he was banged up, he was with us,” Horford said. ”Now with our group this year it’s different. We’ve been having so many injuries throughout the year that I feel like our guys – we’re much more prepared handling everything that we’re going through.” The good news is this Celtics team has already done an admirable job of figuring things out without Hayward and Irving. They’ve played all but five minutes this season without Hayward. In 20 games without Irving they are 13-7. Irving played his last game on March 11. That’s given Boston time to see what its remaining rotation will look like. One thing it will certainly mean is a lot more minutes for reserves like Shane Larkin and Greg Monroe http://www.bengalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jessie-bates-iii-jersey , as well as rookies Semi Ojeleye and Guerschon Yabusele. Stevens acknowledged that there was hope after Irving’s first surgery on his knee last month that removed a tension wire that he would be able to return early in the playoffs. Having him ruled out has ”just solidified that this is where our focus needs to be” he said. ”It’s a great opportunity for the other guys and it’s our job to coach them,” Stevens said. ”I believe in the guys in our locker room. They believe in themselves.” Without Irving, the most glaring deficiency for Boston is its lack of a go-to scorer. Brown is just a few games removed from scoring a career-high 32 points, and Rozier only recently had a 25-game double-digit scoring streak stopped. He’s also proven to be a dependable defender. Still, there is a sense in the East that Boston may be susceptible to a first-round upset. Miami and Milwaukee, currently have the same record (43-37) as the No. 6 and 7 seeds respectively. The Heat won 2 of 3 meetings this season with Boston, while the Celtics split their four games with the Bucks. Washington, at No. 8 leads the season series with Boston 2-1 with the series finale set on Tuesday night. Vulnerable or not, Horford has a message for whoever their first-round opponent is. ”We’re the (No.) 2 seed. We have home-court advantage,” he said. ”And this point, the only thing I can say to that is I can’t wait for the playoffs to start.” — More NBA basketball:
  8. Randy Mueller is set to join the Salt Lake City franchise of The Alliance of American Football as the team’s General Manager Womens Will Butcher Jersey , according to Alex Marvez of Sirius XM NFL Radio. Mueller previously served as the G.M. of the New Orleans Saints from 2000-2001 and the Miami Dolphins from 2005-2007. He’s been a Senior Executive for Football Operations with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers since 2008. Dennis Erickson is already in place as head coach of the Salt Lake team with Tim Lappano set to join the coaching staff as well. Mueller worked alongside Erickson with the Seattle Seahawks from 1995-1998. Mueller was the Vice President of Football Operations in Seattle during the four years of Erickson’s sting as head coach of the franchise. Mueller remained in Seattle one more season in 1999 during the first year of Mike Holmgren’s tenure with the Seahawks before moving on to the Saints. Mueller spent the first 17 years of his personnel career with the Seahawks from 1983 to 1999 in various roles. Utah had a four-point lead in the fourth quarter on Wednesday night when Donovan Mitchell missed a jumper and sailed above three Houston Rockets to grab the rebound and finish with a nifty one-handed slam. He did it right near the Jazz bench and his teammates went wild, cheering and pretending to fall backward on each other in awe. Joe Ingles led the Jazz with a career-high 27 points, but it was the star rookie who provided the highlight of the night as the Jazz evened the Western Conference semifinals 1-1 with a 116-108 win. Ingles made a career-best seven 3-pointers and Mitchell added 17 points and a franchise rookie-record 11 assists for his first game this postseason where he scored fewer than 20 points and didn’t lead the team in scoring. But he certainly provided an emotional boost to his team with his highlight-reel worthy play. He smiled broadly when it was brought up postgame, and said he was just trying to get the rebound on his miss when he made a split-second decision. ”I just happened to be up there,” he said. ”So I said: `Why come down with it?”’ The Jazz squandered a huge early lead before using a big fourth quarter to regain control and head home for Game 3 on Friday in Utah with a chance to take a series lead over the top-seeded Rockets. Houston coach Mike D’Antoni said Mitchell was the key to the win even though he didn’t lead the team in scoring. ”He was breaking us down,” D’Antoni said. ”He was getting in there and was finding guys in the corner. He’s a handful whether he’s finishing or not.” The Jazz were behind by two with eight minutes left before using a 16-2 run to pull away. After trailing by 25 points at halftime of the 110-96 loss in the series opener, the Jazz jumped out to an early lead in this one and led by as many as 19 in the first half. ”Last game Authentic Jaleel Scott Jersey , we came out completely opposite. Tonight, they kind of caught us off-guard,” Houston’s James Harden said. ”We adjusted to it in that second quarter, but we can’t get down 19 no matter who we’re playing.” Houston regained the lead in the third quarter but couldn’t keep pace with the Jazz in the fourth as their normally potent offense went cold. Harden had 32 points and 11 assists, and Chris Paul added 23 points as Houston fell to the Jazz for the first time this season after winning the first five meetings. Jazz coach Quin Snyder was pleased at his team’s balanced scoring effort on a night six players finished in double figures, and he raved about the contribution of Ingles. ”Every time Joe has needed to step up his game, he has been able to http://www.ramsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-brian-allen-jersey ,” Snyder said. ”He’s committed to that. He knew tonight he would need to make some shots and he was able to do it.” Houston was down by one entering the fourth but Utah scored eight straight points on 3-pointers from Dante Exum and Jae Crowder before Mitchell’s dunk made it 100-94. Harden made a basket after that before Utah scored another eight straight points, with two 3s from Ingles, to make it 108-96 with 4 1/2 minutes left. Harden ended a 2 1/2-minute Houston scoring drought with a 3-pointer about a minute later that was the start of a 9-3 run that got the Rockets within 111-105 with 1:46 left. But Rudy Gobert made one of two free throws before Exum put it out of reach with a dunk. Utah led by nine before Houston used a 16-5 run to go up 71-69 for its first lead since it was 6-5 with about seven minutes left in the third. The Jazz went back up 86-85 by the end of the period. After taking just four shots in Game 1 and finishing with 11 points, Gobert got going early Wednesday and had 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting by halftime. But he was mostly quiet after the break, and finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds. TIP-INS Jazz: Snyder said before the game that he didn’t know when point guard Ricky Rubio would return. … Utah assistant Igor Kokoskov was hired as head coach of the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. … Ingles got a technical in the second quarter for arguing with Paul. Rockets: Luc Mbah a Moute had four points and four rebounds in his second game back after missing the first series after dislocating his right shoulder on April 10. … Paul also received a technical for barking at Ingles. … Clint Capela finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. THEY SAID IT The notoriously low-key Harden when told by a reporter that he looked irritated by Utah’s defense on Wednesday: ”I look like that all the time. That’s just my facial expression.” UP NEXT The series moves to Utah where Game 3 is Friday and Game 4 will be played on Sunday.
  9. The Indianapolis Colts spent the offseason investing in Andrew Luck's protection plan. After one week Logan Cooke Color Rush Jersey , they like the results. Sure, Andrew Luck was sacked twice and hit seven more times in Sunday's season-opening loss, but a makeshift offensive line with three new starters held up perhaps better than expected. "I'm not sure I've ever seen an offensive line pass protect as well as they did," offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni said Tuesday. "It wasn't just that they weren't getting near Andrew. You know they got there every once in a while, just as they will with any quarterback. It wasn't so much they weren't getting near him, it was the kind of effort where the offensive line was selling out for Andrew." Sirianni was most impressed by the teamwork from the starting five and their willingness to do whatever it took to keep Luck upright after going more than 20 months between regular-season starts. Plus, the Colts (0-1) weren't even close to full strength 鈥?and they may not be again this weekend at Washington. Left tackle Anthony Castonzo, Luck's longtime blindside protector, injured his hamstring between the end of mini-camp and the start of training camp. He returned briefly after being placed on the physically unable to perform list, then re-injured the hamstring before the preseason opener. Castonzo hasn't played since and was limited in practice all of last week. Denzelle Good looked like the probable starter at right tackle heading into the preseason, but hurt his knee and wrist in Week 3 of the preseason and sat out all of last week. Indy danced around those absences by plugging their most versatile lineman, Joe Haeg, into Castonzo's spot on the left side, and putting veteran J'Marcus Webb, who didn't even play in the NFL last season, in Good's spot on the right side. Indy's plight may have taken another hit when Webb injured his hamstring on Clayton Fejedelem's clinching 83-yard fumble return to seal Cincinnati's victory. Webb was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. "Anthony wasn't in much of training camp, either, so we were kind of ready for it," Haeg said. "We have been constantly shuffling guys around, getting guys reps at every position, so it really wasn't as big a deal, I think, as if Anthony had been healthy all of OTAs, all of training camp and then showed up Week 1 and not been able to play." But the Colts' options are pretty limited. Haeg could swing back to the right side, where he is more familiar, if Castonzo starts. The only other tackle on the active roster is Le'Raven Clark, a third-round pick in 2016 who was inactive against the Bengals. What else could the Colts do? Second-round pick Braden Smith lost out on the starting job at right tackle during the preseason and the only other lineman on the active roster is veteran guard Mark Glowinski, who started 19 games in three seasons with Seattle. He, however, is listed as a guard. "You have to find a groove so that you're ready whenever your name is called Matt Judon Jersey ," Smith said. The Colts certainly didn't play a perfect game against Cincinnati. Sirianni acknowledged there were some missed assignments and they need to run the ball consistently. But he figures if the Colts continue to protect Luck the way they did for 55 passing attempts Sunday, Indy's starting quarterback should be in good hands 鈥?regardless of the starters. "I was really just amazed at how little he got hit, dropping back that many times." Sirianni said. "We got some movement on a really good defensive line on some run plays that we were really encouraged by." Notes: The Colts have reached injury settlements with linebackers Tyrell Adams and Jeremiah George, receivers K.J. Brent and Krishawn Hogan and safety T.J. Green. All five become free agents after initially going on the Colts' injured reserve list when they cleared waivers. ... Indy also has signed cornerback Lenzy Pipkins to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and signed guard Sean Harlow and cornerback Tarvarus McFadden to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Jamil Douglas. Kirk Cousins was bothered enough by the throws he missed in Minnesota's third preseason game that he brought a piece of paper with a list of them to the podium for his interview afterward. There's a long way to go, particularly with an offensive line that's not yet set, but Cousins and the Vikings made some improvements against Seattle. Cousins passed for 182 yards without a turnover in the first half, before third-stringer Kyle Sloter threw for two fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 21-20 comeback victory over the Seahawks on Friday night. Out of sync in their previous game, the Vikings assembled three drives of 12 or more plays despite some disruptions by the Seahawks. Cousins went 17 for 28. "You could've really had a great night. I feel like we just missed that," Cousins said. Sebastian Janikowski didn't miss. The 40-year-old kicked field goals from 35 and 55 yards in the first half for the Seahawks, who kept their starters in past halftime. Russell Wilson led one scoring drive against the vaunted Vikings defense, finishing 11 for 21 for 118 yards and declaring his work-in-progress offensive line a success. "I had all day," Wilson said. Vikings rookie Daniel Carlson, who just won the kicker job this week when seventh-year veteran Kai Forbath was released, pulled two 42-yard field goal attempts wide left in the first half. Following the first miss, Latavius Murray's touchdown run capped the second drive. Then coach Mike Zimmer ordered a 2-point conversion. "Just to let him know that if he's going to miss 'em, I'm going to go for 2," Zimmer said. The mention of wide left against the Seahawks still makes Vikings fans wince, three seasons after Blair Walsh's 27-yard miss at the end of the playoff game on that below-zero afternoon in Minnesota. Walsh spent last year with Seattle, struggled anew and was not brought back. The 40-year-old Janikowski, having edged out Jason Myers for the job, has taken over. "I'd rather kick the short ones and hit a lot of extra points, but if it comes down to it I'm excited and looking forward to it," Janikowski said. CONFIDENCE IN CARLSON Zimmer noted that Carlson, a fifth-round draft pick from Auburn, only missed a couple of kicks in practices since training camp started. The coach actually expressed more concern about the kick coverage teams, which have allowed long returns in each exhibition game. "Put this behind me," Carlson said, "but learn from it and move on." PUNTING PROWESS Rookie punter Michael Dickson, who beat out stalwart Jon Ryan this week, was just as sharp as Janikowski. His five punts averaged 53.6 yards per attempt Julius Peppers Jersey , with a long of 61 yards and two times downed at the 3. "I'm really fired up about that," coach Pete Carroll said. PADS POPPING Chris Carson carried seven times for 26 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 20 yards for the Seahawks, who are trying to regenerate the power running attack that helped them reach two straight Super Bowls. Rookie Rashaad Penny, who's also expected to factor heavily in the ground game this season, broke his finger in practice last week and did not play. The defense, which is undergoing a more significant renovation with Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman all moved on. The Seahawks are at least set at linebacker with Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. Wagner sacked Cousins for what would've been a 13-yard loss on third-and-goal at the 5, but Shaquill Griffin was called for holding Stefon Diggs during the play. Wright delivered a jarring shoulder tackle on Diggs, who was targeted eight times. Newcomer Barkevious Mingo delivered his share of blows in the first half, too. "I thought we played with good juice tonight," Carroll said. "I like the way that we're learning to hit." COOK'S BACK Murray took over for Dalvin Cook, who had two carries on the first drive to complete his recovery from reconstructive knee surgery last season. "I got in, I got banged up a little bit, got that out of the way," Cook said. "Now it's just time for everybody to know I can play football." BACKUPS COME UP BIG David Moore caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Alex McGough for the Seahawks and had a 75-yard punt return for a score called back by a holding penalty. For the Vikings, Sloter's touchdowns went to Jake Weineke and Chad Beebe , before the go-ahead 2-point conversion completion to Weineke again. Weineke is a Minnesota native, undrafted from South Dakota State. Beebe, from Northern Illinois, is the son of former Buffalo folk hero Don Beebe. NATIONAL ANTHEM Three Seahawks players continued their practice of leaving the field during the singing of the "The Star-Spangled Banner" and returning shortly after: offensive tackle Duane Brown, defensive end Branden Jackson and defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson. INJURY REPORT Seahawks: Fourteen injured players were listed on the inactive list, including WR Doug Baldwin (knee), CB Byron Maxwell (ankle) and SS Bradley McDougald (pectoral). Baldwin and Maxwell have been out the whole preseason. FS Tedric Thompson hurt his ribs during a first-quarter tackle, Carroll said, but he returned. Vikings: Nine injured players were listed on the did-not-dress list, including DE Everson Griffen (lower leg), CB Mackensie Alexander (ankle) and C Pat Elflein (ankle/shoulder). Diggs immediately went to the sideline with some apparent discomfort after the collision with Wright, but he came back. UP NEXT The Seahawks host Oakland in their final exhibition game on Thursday. The Vikings play at Tennessee to wrap up the preseason slate on Thursday.
  10. Down 3-0 after a disastrous opening 20 minutes Cheap Customized Dallas Cowboys Jerseys , there was no flipping of tables or peeling of paint off the walls in the Winnipeg Jets‘ locker room. They instead spent the first intermission calmly trying to figure a way out of that deficit. ”We got kicked in the teeth a little bit,” Jets captain Blake Wheeler said. ”Our goal was just to win the second period and give ourselves a chance.” They did that, and a whole lot more. Wheeler scored on the power play with 4:59 left after Winnipeg roared back from that early deficit to defeat the Nashville Predators 7-4 on Tuesday night and grab a 2-1 lead in their second-round playoff series. ”It’s definitely not how you draw up a first period, but nobody panicked,” said Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba, who finished with a goal and an assist. ”We just regrouped. It wasn’t really any different in here than if it was a tie game or if we were winning. ”We just went out there and played a little bit faster and played with a little bit more confidence.” Dustin Byfuglien had two goals and an assist for Winnipeg, and Paul Stastny added a goal and two assists. Wheeler, who also had an assist, scored the first of two empty-net goals in the final minute, with Brandon Tanev getting the other. Mark Scheifele added two assists to become the first player since Sidney Crosby in 2010 to have five consecutive multi-point games in a postseason. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 stops. Filip Forsberg and P.K. Subban each had a goal and an assist for Nashville, while Mike Fisher and Austin Watson also scored. Mattias Ekholm and Ryan Johansen both added two assists for the Predators, who got 38 saves from Pekka Rinne. ”We just stopped playing,” Nashville defenseman Ryan Ellis said. ”You can’t win hockey when you stop playing.” Johansen said the Predators stopped skating after blowing the lead. ”We stopped moving our legs,” Johansen said. ”We did a lot of things poorly and they got better. Momentum swings in playoffs http://www.cardinalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-chase-edmonds-jersey , they can be deadly.” Game 4 is Thursday night in Winnipeg before things shift back to Nashville for Game 5 on Saturday. After the Predators surged ahead on goals by Fisher, Subban and Watson in the first period, the Jets roared out of the gate in the second to tie it during a frantic three-minute stretch. Stastny got the comeback started at 2:38 when Trouba’s bouncing shot from the point struck his skate in front and ricocheted in off the crossbar and straight out. The veteran center raised his arms in celebration, but play continued for a few seconds before officials blew the sequence dead to check if the puck crossed the line. Wheeler then missed a wide-open net after Rinne’s turnover before getting cleaned out by Watson along the boards. Scheifele came to Wheeler’s defense to nullify what would have been a Winnipeg power play, but the Jets seemed to get a boost from the exchange and made it 3-2 when Byfuglien blasted his second of the playoffs past Rinne at 5:11. Then with the teams still playing 4-on-4, Trouba took a slick pass from Wheeler just 18 seconds later to send the white-clad crowd Bell MTS Place into its third frenzy in quick succession with his second of the postseason. ”That was chaos,” Stastny said. Winnipeg imposed its physical will as the period wore on, hitting Nashville’s defense at every opportunity, and the pressure finally paid off with 45 seconds remaining when Patrik Laine passed to Byfuglien for his second of the game. The big defenseman celebrated by removing a glove and dancing – a far cry from the playful punches he threw at teammates after Winnipeg tied Game 2 late in regulation. ”You guys only see him on the ice,” Trouba said. ”I see him dance all the time.” But Nashville punched back to even the score 4-4 at 7:40 of the third when Forsberg wheeled across the top of the slot on the power play to beat Hellebuyck with his fifth goal of the postseason shortly after Laine hit the post. Trouba then turned the puck over at the offensive blue line to send Viktor Arvidsson in alone on a breakaway, but Hellebuyck was there with a big glove stop. Winnipeg got its third man advantage of the third with 5:59 remaining when Subban went off for high-sticking after failing to clear the puck twice late in a previous Jets power play. Wheeler scored the winner from a tight angle after Rinne stopped Scheifele from the slot. ”Our fans are huge. It’s real, too,” Wheeler said. ”Our crowd noise is from the crowd. It’s not from speakers or music or live bands or whatever. ”That’s people making noise and that goes right through your body.” Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor missed on a breakaway that would have sealed it on another man advantage before Nick Bonino hit the post at the other end for Nashville. Wheeler and Tanev then sealed it into an empty net in the final minute. The Jets opened the series with a 4-1 win in Nashville before the Predators picked up a 5-4 double overtime victory in Game 2. The Predators silenced Winnipeg’s fans just 4:53 in Tuesday when Fisher poked a loose puck over the goal line for his first of the playoffs after Hellebuyck couldn’t squeeze Ryan Hartman’s tip of Ekholm’s shot from the sideboards. Wheeler then took an offensive zone tripping penalty, and the Predators capitalized when Subban scored his second of the playoffs Brett Favre Jersey , and second in as many games, through Hellebuyck’s legs at 10:06. Watson made it 3-0 with 2:25 left when he Richie Incognito tells The Associated Press he’s back home training in Arizona and feeling great, two weeks after the former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman spent three days in a mental hospital following an alleged outburst at a south Florida gym. Without discussing the outburst, Incognito wrote in a text to The AP on Wednesday that he is still pursuing continuing his NFL career for a 12th season. He focused a majority of his message thanking friends and fans for their support, and specifically singled out former teammate, center Eric Wood. Incognito referred to Wood as a pillar of the community and added: ”When I would have a dark day, he was a bright shining light that helped me through. I owe him a lot.” Incognito also thanked the Bills and team owners Terry and Kim Pegula for providing him an opportunity to resurrect his career. The Bills signed Incognito in January 2015 after he spent 18 months out of football following his role in the Miami Dolphins’ bullying scandal. He referred to his three seasons in Buffalo as being some of his fondest memories. Incognito then closed his message by saying he hopes to sign with another team so that he can come back to Buffalo to beat the Bills, before adding a smiling face emoji wearing sunglasses. The 34-year-old Incognito has had a tumultuous offseason. Two weeks ago, police placed Incognito in a mental hospital after he allegedly threw weights and tennis balls at gym employees and another patron, and told officers the government is spying on him. In April, Incognito abruptly fired his agent and then retired by posting a note on Twitter before having a change of heart. The Bills granted his request to be released to potentially sign with another team on May 21. —
  11. Saquon Barkley mostly stood and watched Authentic Jordan Eberle Jersey , resting his strained left hamstring as the New York Giants practiced against the Detroit Lions. "He's day to day," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Tuesday. Barkley, a rookie running back drafted No. 2 overall, did some drills very slowly before going to the sideline to work on strength and conditioning. The former Penn State star was in uniform 鈥?minus shoulder pads 鈥?while his teammates went through the first of three practices with the Lions. On Monday, he caught a swing pass out of the backfield and was injured either stretching to make the catch or running down the sideline after the catch. It's unclear if Barkley will play in Friday night's preseason game at Detroit. "Player safety is right on the front burner for all of us all the time," Shurmur said. "If he's able to go, he'll play. If he's not, then he won't be out there." Jonathan Stewart, who spent the first 10 years of his career with the Carolina Panthers http://www.officialcanucks.com/authentic-adidas-henrik-sedin-jersey , filled in for Barkley during some snaps with the first-string offense. The Lions, meanwhile, had a key player walk off the field after being injured. Starting center Graham Glasgow appeared to hurt his left leg. Coach Matt Patricia declined to comment on the injury after practice. Glasgow started all 16 games last year and played in 15 games, starting 11, the previous year as a rookie. Detroit is counting on him to improve its running game , which has ranked among the NFL's worst in recent years. The team's backup options at center include Wesley Johnson, who started 15 games for the New York Jets last season. NOTES: Giants LB Connor Barwin, who has an undisclosed injury, did not practice and said the team is letting him rest. ... Lions President Rod Wood said the team is still looking into the possibility of placing a retractable roof on Ford Field. Brandon Morrow got the call Saturday night. It was a call nine days in the making. The Chicago Cubs‘ closer had not pitched since June 7 Anders Lee Jersey , due to his team either winning games in lopsided fashion or losing them. It was only natural that he started out a bit rusty against the Cardinals, allowing singles to Jairo Munoz and Kolten Wong to begin the bottom of the ninth. But Morrow clicked into rhythm after that. Following an infield out, Morrow threw 99 mph fastballs by Matt Carpenter and Tommy Pham to end Chicago’s 6-3 win over St. Louis and give him his 16th save in 17 chances. Despite a 25-pitch inning in his return, Morrow should be available if needed for Sunday night’s series finale at Busch Stadium, where the Cubs will try to score a sweep and win for the 15th time in 20 games. “I’d like to keep him sharp,” Chicago manager Joe Maddon said, “but guys like that can normally throw on the side and stay sharp.” Morrow has been everything the Cubs could have asked for in his first year with the team. Tasked with replacing Wade Davis as the ninth inning man, Morrow has pitched to a 1.59 earned run average, allowing just over one baserunner per inning and whiffing 25 hitters over 22 2/3 innings. His ninth inning helped spotlight one of the biggest differences between Chicago and St. Louis. While the Cubs have a reliable back end of the bullpen Jonathan Drouin Jersey , the Cardinals do not. They have basically two reliable relievers, and Jordan Hicks proved mortal in the eighth inning Saturday night when he ceded his first runs of June on Jason Heyward’s two-run homer. That’s put the pressure on St. Louis starters, who for the most part have handled it. The burden now falls on rookie Jack Flaherty (3-2, 2.96) to match his outing from a 5-2 win Monday night over San Diego and keep the Cardinals (36-32) from a fifth straight defeat. Flaherty gave up just three hits and a run in 6 1/3 innings against the Padres, walking one and striking out six to claim his first win since May 20. This will be his first career start against Chicago, although he did pitch a scoreless inning of relief against the Cubs last year. “We were just throwing with more conviction tonight,” Flaherty told mlb.com. “Last time out, I said I really didn’t execute well. I feel like it had a lot to do with execution and conviction behind everything, just throwing everything with intent.” The Cubs (40-27) will counter with lefthander Jose Quintana (6-4 Authentic Conor Sheary Jersey , 4.09), whose up-and-down season is trending more in a positive direction of late. Quintana is coming off a no-decision Monday night in Milwaukee, where he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings as Chicago won 7-2 in 11 innings. Quintana has permitted only four runs in his last three starts, covering 17 2/3 innings. He’s 3-1 in five career starts against the Cardinals with a 2.67 ERA, beating them twice last year after his mid-July acquisition from the Chicago White Sox. http://www.officialusafootballs.com/philadelphia-eagles
  12. SANTA CLARA Justin Braun Jersey Kids , Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers sure are getting a lot of attention for a team coming off a six-win season that hasn’t even sniffed the playoffs the past four years. That’s what a season-ending five-game winning streak and the presence of a potential franchise quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo will do. One group not buying into all the hype is in the San Francisco locker room. “There’s no one (here) who thinks we arrived,” said left tackle Joe Staley, the only player left from the Niners‘ last playoff team in 2013. “We have a ton of work to do. We were a 6-10 football team. We were happy with the way we finished last year, but that’s in the past.” San Francisco put together that sterling 5-0 finish after a dreadful start to the first season under coach Kyle Shanahan that featured nine straight losses to begin the schedule, including a record five straight by three points or fewer. That all began to change after the team acquired Garoppolo before the trade deadline from New England. After a few weeks to learn the offense, Garoppolo stepped in and showed why the Patriots had groomed him as Tom Brady’s successor. He completed 67.4 percent of his passes last season, averaging 8.8 yards per attempt with seven TDs Brayden Schenn Jersey , five interceptions and a 96.2 rating to improve to 7-0 in his career as a starter. Among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts last season, Garoppolo ranked first in yards per attempt, fourth in completion percentage. His 308.4 yards passing per game in his five starts also would have led the league had he played a full season. But more importantly, he changed the mindset of a whole franchise. “Jimmy is confident in himself,” Shanahan said. “I think everyone felt that right away. That’s why guys gravitate to guys. It doesn’t matter what people say or how they act. People can tell when people believe in themselves and when they don’t. But, it shows the most on the field. When you’re having success as a quarterback, as a receiver Authentic Justin Bailey Jersey , as anybody, that confidence is only going to grow. When people start seeing you, the more plays you can put together the higher it gets.” Here are some other things to watch this season: SHERMAN’S HEALTH: One of the most high-profile moves San Francisco made in free agency was signing Richard Sherman after his release in Seattle. After years of tormenting the Niners, Sherman has flipped sides in the NFC West rivalry. But how effective he will be will depend heavily on his health. His 2017 season was cut short by surgery on his Achilles tendon. Sherman hopes to overcome that at age 30. He was slowed by a hamstring problem in camp, so it’s uncertain how much speed he’s lost from his days as the league’s top cover cornerbacks. REUBEN’S ROLE: Reuben Foster showed signs of being an elite inside linebacker as a rookie when he was on the field. The problem was he missed five full games with injuries and left several others for periods of time. Having Foster at middle linebacker is key and the Niners have tried to get him to use his hands more to limit the wear and tear on his body. But Foster already will miss the first two games because of a suspension following two offseason arrests, and San Francisco can’t afford to be without him much more. RUSH THE PASSER: San Francisco failed to generate much pass pressure last year, getting only 30 sacks. Elvis Dumervil was cut after leading the team with 6 ½ Mikkel Boedker Jersey , and no one else had more than three. Despite the lack of production, DeForest Buckner is one of the league’s top defensive linemen. He generates consistent pressure and could get more opportunities outside to get one-on-one matchups that could lead to more sacks. DEEP THREAT: One of the most impressive 49ers last year was speedy WR Marquise Goodwin, who smashed his career highs with 56 catches for 962 yards in his first season with San Francisco. The former Olympic long jumper proved he can be more than a deep threat as he ranked in the top six in catches (29) and yards (384) in five games with Garoppolo. “He’s continued to get better in every facet of his game,” Shanahan said. “He probably hasn’t gotten faster, he’s always been fast. But his hands have gotten better, he’s gotten more consistent. He tracks the ball well. It’s not just catching the easy ones now, he’s starting to make some tough ones.” RUN THE ROCK: The Niners let Carlos Hyde leave in free agency and replaced him with a more versatile back in Jerick McKinnon. But McKinnon went down with a season-ending knee injury Phil Kessel Jersey , leaving a big hole on the offense. Alfred Morris was signed midway through camp and could be the main back with little-used Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert the other options. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have announced partnerships with Def Jam Recordings and Marvel Entertainment to enhance game-day experiences for fans at MetLife Stadium this season. Def Jam will create a Jets anthem that will be played during home games and be part of the team’s pregame ritual as it takes the field. A video series featuring Def Jam artists and Jets players is also being produced. The first episode show safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye visiting rapper Jadakiss’ studio in Yonkers, New York. The Jets’ deal with Marvel Entertainment will include Marvel-themed features for fans at the stadium. That includes a “Green Out” for the Jets’ game against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 21, highlighted by a Hulk-themed bobblehead and a 16-page Hulk vs. Thor comic book written by Marvel Comics contributor Fabian Nicieza, who’s a Jets fan and New Jersey native. Marvel will also produce an eight-page, digital comic to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Jets’ Super Bowl win over the Colts. http://www.officialusafootballs.com/oakland-raiders
  13. Here’s how lucky Chelsea and Courey Marshall are: They are going to Sunday’s Super Bowl after spending the previous night in a luxury suite at U.S. Bank Stadium. Courey Marshall Authentic Brock Nelson Jersey , a graduate of the Naval Academy who spent five years in the service, and his wife, who works for a chiropractic practice, are Broncos fans from San Diego. So this isn’t their first trip to the big game. In 2016, they were at Levi’s Stadium to see Denver beat Carolina for the NFL championship. Sure, their team and favorite player, now-retired Peyton Manning http://www.officialstarsproonline.com/authentic-adidas-brett-ritchie-jersey , are not on hand this year. And the couple had no plans to be in Minnesota in February. Then Courey was notified – by Manning, of all people – that he’d won the Courtyard by Marriott Super Bowl contest. The prizes include two tickets to Eagles-Patriots, and also the opportunity to stay in the converted stadium suite on Saturday night. ”I’ve never been in a completely empty stadium, let alone the Super Bowl stadium,” he said. ”And to have my wife with me, and to wake up on game day in the stadium, that’s pretty special.” Added Chelsea: ”I can’t imagine what it’s like to wake up in the Super Bowl stadium with no fans there.” They’re about to find out. The suite is on field level next to where the Patriots would run out of the tunnel before the game. It will be converted from the sleepover suite back to its original state well before kickoff Patrick Kane Jersey , and the Marshalls will have prime seats near midfield. Eli Manning was on hand this week to show off a replica of the suite and an omnitheater presentation that replicated the experience. ”You’re right there in the dome and get to see all the behind-the-scenes stuff,” he said. ”Then you wake up on Super Bowl Sunday right there. Has to be a wonderful experience.” — There's no questioning C.J. Prosise's talent, only his ability to remain on the football field. The third-year running back for the Seattle Seahawks has been plagued by injuries throughout his first two years in the NFL. From serious ailments like a fractured scapula, broken wrist bone and high-ankle sprains to more minor ones like groin, hamstring and hip strains, Prosise has been sidelined constantly. With Chris Carson back from injury himself and Seattle using their first-round pick on San Diego State back Rashaad Penny, there is an urgency for Prosise to be able to stay healthy and contribute regularly this season. Prosise spent the offseason trying to get physically ready to make the most of what could be a final opportunity with Seattle. "I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life Gabriel Landeskog Jersey Kids ," Prosise said. "I feel like I can do anything on the field. I feel 100 percent and ready to go so I'm excited for this camp. We play a physical game and injuries happen and you can't avoid it. This offseason was geared around getting my body prepared to take the punishment that my body needs to take and so my body is in that position to do that now. So I'm ready to play." Prosise buckled down with a personal trainer this offseason and was focused on putting himself in a position to withstand the types of injuries that had hampered him his first two seasons. "That was a big change I made," Prosise said. "Before this I didn't put as much work as I should have been putting in. Now, I've kind of figured out my regimen. And also just getting on the field every day and working with drills, specific running back drills and stuff. For the most part hitting the weight room really hard and getting my body toned up and ready for the season is really what's helped the most." Prosise has played in just 11 games in his two years in Seattle. But the limited action was still enough to show the type of player he can be when he's in peak form. As a rookie in his first career start, he gained 153 yards from scrimmage in a victory over a New England Patriots team that would go on to the win the Super Bowl. His ability to perform both as a runner and as a receiver out of the backfield caused fits for the Patriots defense. A week later, Prosise broke free for a 72-yard touchdown run against the Philadelphia Eagles. Then Prosise was sidelined when he broke his shoulder blade late in the first half and missed the rest of the season. A pair of high-ankle sprains held him to just five games played a year ago as well. Maybe it's the same tease he's provided in his first two camps with Seattle but Prosise is again drawing praise in the early stages of training camp. "I'm so fired up for him," head coach Pete Carroll said. "He's always been such a terrific potential guy and he has just not been able to stay healthy. He's leaner and stronger. He just is more fit Antti Niemi Jersey , which screams at how hard he worked and how important this is to him. Couldn't send a better message." The old adage that your greatest ability is your availability couldn't be more apt when it comes to Prosise. All of his potential will go unrealized if he's not available on Sundays due to injuries. But as Seattle tries to right a rushing attack that managed just one rushing touchdown from the running back position all last season, having an athlete like Prosise at its disposal would be welcome. NOTES: LB Joshua Perry, who announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this week due to concussions, told NBC's "Today Show" on Thursday that he believes the NFL is doing enough when it comes to concussions. "I think the hardest part.is the research is a little bit fuzzy. I think that we do a great job in terms of the protocol that the NFL has. Coaches aren't pressuring players to get back, I think players feel their own type of pressure to be there for their teammates." Perry had a long post on social media earlier this week announcing he was stepping away after suffering a sixth concussion in the opening days of training camp. Perry was a fourth-round pick of the Chargers in 2016. He signed with Seattle in June. http://www.officialusafootballs.com/denver-broncos
  14. Oakland Raiders long snapper Jon Condo says the team has told him he won't return in 2018. Condo said on his Twitter account Wednesday that the Raiders told his agent he won't be back when he becomes a free agent next week. Condo was initially signed to Oakland's practice squad in 2006 and became the team's long snapper the following season. He played 173 of 176 games over 11 years with the Raiders. Oakland had signed two long snappers to futures contracts earlier this offseason http://www.officialoilers.com/authentic-adidas-connor-mcdavid-jersey , Andrew East and Bradley Northnagel. The Raiders previously announced that kicker Sebastian Janikowski won't be back next year, meaning there will be no players remaining who were acquired before longtime owner Al Davis died in October 2011. The Los Angeles Rams made one pick through the first two days of the NFL draft. They made 10 picks on Day 3, continuing their active offseason by making five trades Saturday, including sending wide receiver Tavon Austin to Dallas. The Rams used those picks to address immediate needs at linebacker and improve their depth on the offensive and defensive lines for the future. "We did think if we could turn a lot of the fourth-, fifth-, sixth-round picks into more picks, we'd have a chance to get fits and fill some roles or get players with traits to have a chance to fill some of those roles," general manager Les Snead said. The Rams have made 11 trades since the league year started on March 14 Kris Letang Jersey , and that doesn't include the deal with Buffalo for wide receiver Sammy Watkins in August that included their second-round pick. All of the Rams' picks came from other teams, either through trades or as compensatory selections. But the Rams ended up using one of their own choices, re-acquiring the fifth-round pick they sent to Denver for cornerback Aqib Talib in March. Getting the 160th overall pick back for two sixth-round picks, the Rams took Oklahoma outside linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. Virginia inside linebacker Micah Kiser was also selected in the fifth, with Louisville edge rusher Trevon Young chosen in the sixth. TCU's Travin Howard, a safety turned linebacker, and SMU defensive end Justin Lawler went in the seventh. Ogbonnia, Young and Lawler will try to replace Robert Quinn Ryan Suter Jersey , who was traded to Miami in March, and unsigned free agent Connor Barwin. Kiser will compete to replace Alec Ogletree, who was dealt to the Giants in March. Howard can provide added depth at inside linebacker. The Rams also addressed both lines of scrimmage. After taking Horned Frogs tackle Joe Noteboom in the third round on Friday, the Rams added Michigan State center Brian Allen in the fourth and Maine offensive lineman Jamil Demby in the sixth. Stephen F. Austin defensive end John Franklin, a fourth-round pick, and Rutgers nose tackle Sebastian Joseph, a sixth-round pick, will get to learn from the likes of Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. Tennessee running back John Kelly was the only skill player the Rams took Jesper Bratt Jersey Kids , selected in the sixth. "Going into year two, you could be a little bit more strategic with some of the needs because collectively as a coaching staff and with our personnel staff we have a much better idea of how our players that have been here fit," coach Sean McVay said. Here are some other things to know about the Rams' busy draft: MOVING ON: The Rams sent Austin to Dallas for a sixth-round draft pick five years after selecting him with the eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft. Austin never developed into more than a gadget player under former head coach Jeff Fisher, and served as a change-of-pace running back last season under McVay after a wrist injury sidelined him for organized team activities and training camp. SENIOR SIGNIFICANCE: Noteboom, Kiser, Okoronkwo and Demby participated in the Senior Bowl. Snead said it was a coincidence after six of their eight draft picks in 2017 played in Senior Bowl, but added that the talent level at the event was especially beneficial for a smaller-school player like Demby. KAMARA 2.0? Todd Gurley established himself as the premier three down back in football with 2,093 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns last season Alexander Kerfoot Jersey , but Kelly could lighten the workload for the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Stepping in for New Orleans rookie sensation Alvin Kamara, Kelly had 37 receptions for 299 yards with the Volunteers last season after catching six passes for 51 yards in 2016. "I definitely wanted to be able to incorporate the route-running and pass-catching in my game because I know it translates to the league," Kelly said on a conference call. "I was just blessed to have a guy like Alvin that was able to show me how to perfect my craft on that." STILL NEED: The additions of Kiser and Howard give the Rams more options at inside linebacker, but Mark Barron is the only proven starter there. It wouldn't be a surprise if they add a veteran capable of calling plays and getting everyone lined up. Increased depth and competition at safety could be an aim with undrafted free agents. 15. Five of the seven players drafted at the bottom of the first round don’t have contracts. And one of the two contracts negotiated in that window may be one of the reasons for that. Per a source with knowledge of the situation http://www.officialcanadiensprostore.com/authentic-adidas-karl-alzner-jersey , the deal signed by Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny has become an issue regarding the negotiations involving other players taken with the final selections in round one. The issue isn’t the total value of the deal but the amount of the guaranteed compensation in year four. The three players taken from picks 23 through 25 (Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley, the 26th pick, is unsigned) realized double-digit percentage increases in the amount of the guaranteed pay for the fourth season, in comparison to last year’s picks No. 23 through 25. Penny, however, had his percentage of guaranteed pay shrink by 0.37 percent. As the source explained it, that discrepancy has become an impediment for at least one of the players taken after Penny. While it’s still unlikely that holdouts will result for any of the players taken late in the first round, someone will need to blink regarding the issue of guarantees in 2021 before that will happen. Three years ago, a little-known and undersized running back out of Abilene Christian led the Kansas City Chiefs in rushing Drew Doughty Jersey , filling in admirably for an injured Jamaal Charles. These days, Charcandrick West finds himself fighting for a job. That alone is a sign of just how much deeper and more talented the Chiefs’ stable of running backs is this season. Kareem Hunt led the league in rushing as a rookie, but there is a crush of ability and experience nipping at his heels. ”There’s a good number of backs here that we have,” offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said, ”and we’re very, very blessed and fortunate. We just want to watch these guys compete.” These guys: West, who managed just 72 yards on 18 carries last season; Spencer Ware, who led the Chiefs in rushing two years ago before sustaining a season-ending injury in preseason; Kerwynn Williams, who started six games last season for Arizona; Damien Williams Ondrej Palat Jersey , who appeared in 58 games over the past four seasons in Miami; and Darrel Williams, perhaps the biggest dark horse of the bunch. Williams backed up Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice the past few years at LSU, a big reason why he went undrafted this past April. But many scouts believe he has the talent to succeed, noting he averaged 5.7 yards a carry last season – better than Guice, a second-round pick. ”I probably say this every year, but the talent pool has gotten deeper,” Bieniemy said. ”I look forward to it. Why? Because it brings out the best in each and every one of them.” There are a multitude of reasons why the Chiefs have invested so heavily in the position. For one thing, the value of running backs has swung back to the positive after many had written them off in the era of the pass-happy NFL. Offensive coordinators have started to utilize them in creative ways, employing them as pass-catchers and blockers along with running. No wonder three running backs were selected in the first round of the draft Milan Lucic Jersey Kids , and four more in the second round, headlined by Saquon Barkley going to the Giants at No. 2 overall. Then there’s the misfortune that has befallen Kansas City at the position. Twice the franchise lost Charles to season-ending injuries in his prime, the first time resulting in Jackie Battle leading the team in rushing. Then, after Ware’s transition from fullback to running back led to a breakout season, he tore up his knee in last year’s preseason game against Seattle. The Chiefs were fortunate that Hunt emerged as a bona fide star, but they nonetheless headed into the season with a relatively shallow backfield. West handled some spot duty, and Akeem Hunt and an aged C.J. Spiller saw action, but it was quarterback Alex Smith that was second on the team in rushing. General manager Brett Veach hardly wants new quarterback Patrick Mahomes II to do likewise ”In my mind and obviously in Brett’s mind – because he’s the one who did this – you can’t have enough of those guys,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. ”We figured Ryan Suter Jersey , listen, if we have a chance to get good players lets go ahead and better ourselves, let the competition be there and see what happens. I’m expecting Spencer to be back, but you never know, and you’ve got kids that can play.” The depth has already paid off the first week of camp, giving Hunt a chance to rest a stiff hamstring Friday and Ware an opportunity to slowly get back into game shape. ”I’ve never shied away from competition,” Ware said. ”My ultimate goal is to make my team better and to get better as a player – to make myself more valuable for my team and let them be able to use me in any way they can.” NOTES: Rookie FS Armani Watts was back on the field Saturday after tweaking his ankle. ”He needs reps now,” Reid said. ”If you’re going to make this team you have to show it.” … West took a shot to the head during the team’s first padded practice and was being evaluated by team doctors. — Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys
