it was a lot of effort, but hopefully worth it.many users have noticed how slow this site has been recently. i certainly have. it has been hosted on a provider for Dreamhost for a long, long time now. but their service has been suffering. finally, it was time to move on. i chose Amazon.old setup: Dreamhost private virtual server with Apache/PHP 5.2/FastCGI, Dreamhost private virtual Mysql servernew setup: Amazon EC2 instance running nginx/PHP-FPM 5.5/FastCGI, RDS Mysqlpreliminary results: 20x speedup. that\'s not a typo. home page generation went from 1.6 seconds down to 60ms. let\'s see how it holds up, but i\'m optimistic.some of the RSS feeds are broken. probably other stuff i haven\'t figured out yet. please let me know what you find.
